Empowering Communities to Fight for Justice

Bold Enterprises LLC is a community-powered organization that is committed to fighting for justice and improving the lives of Black children and families. We believe that the criminal justice system is deeply flawed and that it disproportionately harms Black people. We also believe that the K-12 education system is failing Black children, and that it is not preparing them for success in college and in life.

We are working to create a community-powered model for justice that focuses on K-12 education outcomes and changing the condition of Black children and families. Our model includes the following elements:

  • Civic leadership: We believe that civic leadership is essential to creating a just and equitable society. We are working to train and support Black parents and community leaders who can advocate for change in the justice system, child welfare, and the education system. We are also working to build a network of civic leaders who can work together to create a better future for Black children and families.

  • Education: We believe that education is essential to improving the lives of Black children and families. We are working to improve the quality of education in Black communities, and we are support parents and families, community-based organizations, and leaders that are providing quality education to Black children.

  • Economic development: We believe that economic development is essential to creating a just and equitable society. We support economic development projects in Black communities, and we are working to create opportunities for Black people to be self-determined, build, and fortify our own resources.

We believe that our community-powered model for justice can make a real difference in the lives of Black children and families. We are committed to working with our community partners to create a more just and equitable society for all.

Together we are stronger; together we are unbroken; together we can do anything!
our bold ways.

Accompaniment

Accompaniment is not just about being present, but is core to fortifying and revolutionizing the community as a social unit. When you accompany a person through the system, you support and share your power with them.  The transition from oppression to revolution to generational lasting change, means putting knowledge into action.  This active participation community education model is unmatched. Accompaniment can also be seen as building capacity in others.

Doing it together beats doing it alone:
  • We are committed to being present with others because there is power in numbers.

  • We develop community coordinated activities to provide the support and cover parents and families need so they have the confidence to stand up and fight oppression.

  • We provide resources to ensure that community members accompany each other whenever support may be useful, needed and effective.

  • No family should have to interact with the bureaucracy and racist machinery of society alone.  We build coalition to ensure this doesn't happen.

  • We’ve accompanied each other at: school meetings, hearings, and other meetings where a power disparity exists.

Advocacy

The more reform we demand, the more repression we encounter.  We pursue justice by all possible means with the sober understanding that things have to be right and fair in order for them to be just.

Self Advocacy:
  1. Knowing yourself, knowing your needs, and knowing how to get what you want.

Individual Advocacy:
  1. We act on behalf of parents and families while modeling for them the most effective way to act on behalf of themselves and their community.

  2. We help people become more involved in important decisions about their life and this offers a lifeline for many. Our advocates help people understand their rights, their options and support individuals to make an informed decision.

 Community Advocacy:
  1. We offer safe places for the community to gather and build strategic approaches to influencing outcomes and driving change.

  2. Our crisis or short-term advocacy model focuses on one issue or set of issues, and are useful for rapid mobilization and response. This may be provided alongside other forms of advocacy to give extra support in dealing with a particular problem.

  3. Know Your Rights community trainings and education. These sessions are designed to offer faith based leaders, local business owners, extended family members, and others an opportunity to learn about the issues and challenges parents and families face so they are up to date and can provide the best support.

Legislative Advocacy:
  1. We train and mobilize parents and community to become legislative advocates and represent their issues to the Legislature, governor, Congress, the White House and other appropriate agencies.

Legal Advocacy:
  1. We maintain a legal advisory coalition.

  2. Legal advocacy – also known as advocacy through the courts – uses the judicial system to advance social change goals. This is often done by bringing forward a legal case in court that focuses on improving a situation for a particular group of disadvantaged people.

  3. We help bridge the gap between organizing and legal advocacy to help develop and strengthen the community powered participatory defense model.  This is done alongside licensed attorneys.

nobody can express it better than we can for ourselves.

The First Amendment provides that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting its free exercise. It protects freedom of speech, the press, assembly, and the right to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.  We support the full exercise of the 1st amendment right by training on effective methods to have grievances redressed.

Power of the Press

The freedom of the press, protected by the First Amendment, is critical to a democracy in which the government is accountable to the people. A free media functions as a watchdog that can investigate and report on wrongdoing.

Peaceably Assemble

Power of Protest

The First Amendment protects your right to assemble and express your views through protest. Students do not shed this right at the schoolhouse gate! However, police and other government officials are allowed to place certain narrow restrictions on the exercise of speech rights. Make sure you're prepared by brushing up on your rights before heading out into the streets.

Petition Government for Redress of Grievances

Power of Petition

The petition, as a public instrument of change can be used to achieve desired results. The United States constitution guarantees the right to petition and grants people not only the freedom to stand up and speak out against injustices they feel are occurring, but also grants the power to help change those injustices.

Ban on teaching critical race theory in Temecula, Calif., sparks heated debate

“Temecula was one of the areas that housed the White Aryan Resistance movement and its leader,” she said. “If we look at the allowance for that type of behavior, the foundation of that type of behavior, linking back to the KKK and the White Aryan Resistance, neo-Nazi skinhead movement, what happened to the children and the grandchildren of the people that were raised up under that kind of regime? Well, you see them in Temecula today.” -Christina Laster
